Lock up your stuff these Christmas, as the amount of burglaries have been steadily rising across the country in the run-up to Christmas.

The number of burglaries last week increased to 378 across the six garda divisions in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR), up from 325 the previous week.

This means that an average of 54 homes are being broken into in Dublin every day.

The total number of burglaries this year stands at just under 11,000.

Officers operating on the streets have put the blame squarely on the Government, which they claimed have severely and steadily reduced resources for the past six years.
