Busted: Gardai praised for arresting two people in Waterford said to be connected to Islamic terrorism

Gardai in Waterford have been praised after they arrested two people in relation to possible links to international terrorism.

They’re said to be a man and woman aged in their 20s.

A large amount of electronic material was seized at an address just off Waterford’s city center.

The arrests come after a long surveillance operation conducted by Gardai and other security agencies. The operation focused on individuals who may have developed ties to international terrorist organizations while residing in Ireland.

Fears have now arisen as to whether this could be the start of a major gardai sting operation tackling Islamic extremists who have been hiding out undercover in Ireland.
