Buzz off: Areas of Ringsend in Dublin are under siege by flies

Resident associations in the Ringsend area of Dublin claim that their environment has become dominated by flies in recent times.

According to residents, the invasion began earlier this summer, and some are pointing fingers at the nearby Poolbeg incinerator.

The problem has become so bad that neighbours say vast numbers of flies continually buzz around their homes.

Dublin city, which only recently managed to beat by the seagulls back after a gallant fight, is now facing another flying menace.

The flies appear to be ‘larger’ than common houseflies, and have become a nuisance, even forcing the closure of some businesses in the area, according to some residents.

The source of the invasion remains elusive, but many believe that the Poolbeg incinerator, which only began operating recently, is to blame.
