From midnight tonight, car owners who allow learner drivers to use a vehicle unaccompanied will face fines or jail time.
Car owners who fall foul of the new legislation may be fined up to €1,000, spend up to 6 months in jail, or have their vehicle seized.
According to Minister for Transport Shane Ross, the new laws ‘will save lives.’
