One of only two Sinn Fein TDs to stand their ground against the relatively newly elected leader Mary Lou McDonald in last month’s abortion referendum, Carol Nolan has had enough of the party and has resigned.

The Offaly/North Tipperary TD wrote a dignified piece on Facebook which has been greeted by well-wishers right across the country.

Carol wrote:
“Today I resigned from the Sinn Fein party. I want to assure all constituents that I will be continuing to work hard on your behalf as a TD and I look forward to continuing to work with you all!”

Insiders say that she took some time to consider her position in the party seeing as she’s very much a Pro Life politician who will defend unborn babies both north and south of the border.

They claim that “Carol is sticking by her views and she doesn’t want to be in a party that is pro abortion especially giving that Mary Lou wants abortion in the north as well as the south.”

The only other Sinn Fein TD who is Pro Life and stood his ground is Peadar Toibin from Navan, Co. Meath.

An Offaly resident posted:
“Carol will do just fine. She’s a good person, has stood by those who elected her and we will continue to support her and re-elect her with or without Sinn Fein.”
