The referendum for Independence finally has a result – some 90% of the region who voted are said to have voted Yes for Independence.
This result comes over fierce fighting from Spanish riot police who beat men, women and even children on the streets of Catalonia today and outside polling stations.
Catalonia “has won the right to become an independent state” – the Spanish region’s leader Carles Puigdemont has said.
Speaking on television live from Barcelona, Mr Puigdemont said “today the Spanish state wrote another shameful page in its history with Catalonia”.
The results could mean more civil unrest or even a civil war if Spain don’t agree to terms with the Catalonia leaders.
