House prices in Ireland rose dramatically by an average of €1,000 or 5.5% a month during 2018, according to a House Price Survey released by daft.ie.

It concluded that the average price nationwide in the final quarter of the year was €254,000, down 1.1% on the figure for the third quarter.

The breakdown in Dublin saw prices rose by 2.9% during 2018, compared to an increase of 11.7% in 2017.

Striking a sense of deja vu to the days of the boom, properties available to buy on the market rose by 10% from 2017 figures to 2018.

There were just over 23,500 properties for sale in December 2018, compared to 21,200 in December 2017. This is the first increase in properties for sale in 10 years.
