A charity organisation who provides specialised play areas for children in hospitals across the country, have issued an appeal to certain people not to steal the toys from the wards.

The news comes after a number of relatives of sick children have submitted a complaint to the organisation stating that a number of toys along with Playstations and flatscreen TVs are being stolen from the wards in children’s hospitals. The charity organisation Children in Hospital in Ireland have criticised those that take the toys saying that they are stealing from terminally ill children. Although the organisation did state that the number of their toys that go missing is significantly low at the present time but it is still a problem.

One person named Philip spoke of the ongoing thefts at childrens hospitals saying he was shocked at the situation. Philip came across a theft recently whilst visiting is ill niece when noticed that a buzzer button used to contact the nursing staff was stolen, Philip said: “One thing that really struck me was when a nurse said to me, ‘they’ve even stolen the buzzer button’, that’s the only thing the child can contact the nurse with in the ward when they need help,” “Why would anybody steal a buzzer? Has society sunk that far that people are stealing the buzzers from poor sick children in hospitals?”
