The traditional Christmas lights ceremony at Leinster House will not go ahead this evening, as a mark of respect for Jonathan Corrie, the homeless man who died on Molesworth Street yesterday.

Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett decided to postpone the event, explaining that it would be “inappropriate in light of the tragic death” so close to the Oireachtas buildings yesterday.

A candlelit ceremony will be held on Kildare Street this evening in memory of the deceased.

Jonathan Corrie’s body was discovered by a passerby on Monday morning.
