We are now in the month of November and Halloween is over for another year, but as always just as the month of November begins almost everyone’s mind starts turning to the festive season even though it’s just under two months away.

The thought of Christmas which is usually extra hyped by none more so than the nations retailers has already begun with Christmas related products and adverts popping everywhere you turn.

Although the chance to get in on the Christmas spirit as early as possible can be beneficial for retailers it can amazingly be damaging to consumers and employees given that its not only what you see that can be annoying but what you hear that can cause mental health problems.

Well that’s according to one leading psychologist who claims repeated Christmas music on a loop over the course of long periods can be mentally draining and considered torture.

According to Clinical psychologist Linda Blair who was recently speaking to Sky News the relentless playing of Christmas tunes across shops and supermarkets can have a major affect on those who are employees at the store.

Ms Blair claims that those working in the retail sector have it the hardest especially over the extended festive season as they are forced to put unnecessary stress on their brains in order to tune out the music which can be played non stop for over 12 hours a day.

Speaking to the Sky News Ms Blair said: “People working in the shops at Christmas have to tune out Christmas music, because if they don’t, it really does stop you from being able to focus on anything else.”

“You’re simply spending all of your energy trying not to hear what you’re hearing.”

She added: “The whole experience can be mentally draining on these involved, and it can have a severe impact on their mental health”
