A Dublin driver is facing a very hefty fine after they were caught by the garda traffic corp this weekend when they were using their mother-in-law’s disabled parking bay permit.
The disabled permit entitles the owner/user of the car with the disability to park in the allocated disabled parking spots, generally close to shopping centre entrances or pay machines.
The permits can only be used if the disabled person is operating the car or in the passenger seat, generally that is the only exception.
However, gardai posted an image to social media showing a car parked in a disabled parking spot in West Dublin where the driver was not disabled but was using their mother-in-law’s permit.
Gardai claim that the driver was out doing some late night Christmas shopping and was parked in the disabled bay when they caught them. They’re now facing a fine of up to €3,000 for using the permit.
