The murderer of 12 innocent people in a Colorado cinema, James Holmes has been sentenced tonight to 70 years in prison – without the possibility of parole after the jury rejected the death penalty for his 2012 shooting rampage at a screening on “Batman – The Dark Knight Rises”.

The Jurors in the trial, which was watched around the world, reached a sentencing verdict in less that 6 hours.

Holmes, 27, was convicted last month on 165 counts including the first-degree murder of all 12 people killed in the 20 July 2012 shooting massacre. Seventy people were also badly wounded when the gunman jumped up out of his seat and started to randomly shoot people in the packed theatre.

The Judge handed down the sentence noting that the murderer will never ever see the light of day outside of prison walls again.
