Come On Everybody: Presenter Ryan Tubridy calls on RTE to bring back the Telethon to help charities such as the Saint Vincent de Paul

Late Late Show host and RTE Radio one presenter Ryan Tubridy has called on his employers to bring back the Telethon so that they can raise money for the Saint Vincent de Paul and other leading charities.

Mr Turbidy made his comments whilst he was attending the launch of the SVP annual appeal, the well known presenter said he believes that RTE should consider such a project in light of the success of the BBC’s annual Children in Need fundraiser which raised a whopping £37 million for charities in the UK last week. Turbidy told reporters: “I think we need to bring something like that back to RTÉ and we need to raise a few million quid for St Vincent de Paul and raise some money for where it belongs.” The presenter also said if his employers did decide to hold event once again, he would do “12 hours broadcast on the trot”.

The late late show presenter further explained: “People watch television, It doesn’t have to happen every year, but it may be a way around collecting outside church gates where it may not be as busy as it used to be. People watch television, and this is something that may be considered for Vincent de Paul and other charities.”

The Telethon was last held back in 2007 and was later cancelled following the down turn in economy and has not been broadcast since, it is not yet known if RTE would consider launching the charity appeal once again.
