The former Para-athlete Oscar Pistorius was reportedly rushed to hospital today after he suffered chest pains whilst in his cell in prison this morning.

Pistorious who is currently serving a six year sentence for the murder of his former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was reportedly rushed to Pretoria’s Kalafong Hospital at approximately 8am this morning by paramedics who were under guard by prison staff after complaining of chest pains.

Although Initial reports in South Africa suggested the former athlete suffered a heart attack, it was later confirmed that Pistorious was released from hospital at 2pm this afternoon.

Speaking to South African state media a prison spokesman confirmed the incident saying: “We can state that offender Oscar Pistorius was taken to an outside hospital facility this morning for a medical examination, and is expected back in the facility later today.”

Meanwhile a family spokesperson has since confirmed that Pistorious is “okay”.

The former athlete was sentenced to spend six years in prison after he was found guilty of killing his former girlfriend after he shot her a number of times from behind a closed door believing she was an intruder inside his home.
