Cork family’s harrowing ordeal in Tunisia beach attack

attack2

A family from Cork have spoken of their narrow escape from yesterday’s terrorist attack at a Tunisian beach resort.

Tomás Ó Ríordáin, originally from Cúil Aodha in Cork, explained how himself, his wife Treasa and their daughter Amy were enjoying a day at the pool at their hotel El Mouradi Palm Marina when the shooting started.

According to O’Riordáin, they were close enough to the scene of the attack that they could hear the shots, when they realised that their other daughters, Claire and Siobhán, were at the beach.

The couple heard gunfire and then people started running back from beach and into the hotel. Claire and Siobhán were able to return safely, and the family scrambled up to their hotel room and locked the door.

38 people died during the attack, and at least 38 others were wounded.
