According to newly published figures the HSE spent over a million euro in treating morbid obesity in 2017.
The figures which were published under the Freedom of Information Act shows that a total of €1,035,170 was spent on surgical proceedures that are aimed at losing weight.
Although the figure slightly dropped from 2016, the figures showed that a total of 108 people opted for weight control surgeries in the year 2017.
The HSE say the money was spent on procedures that limit food intake.
Amongst the surgeries that were carried out included, gastric bypass procedures and gastric band procedures.
The latest figures also show that a total of €6.3m has been spent on weight control proceedures within the last eight years.
