County Meath native Elysha Brennan crowned the 56th winner of the Rose of Tralee contest

The 56th annual Rose of Tralee contest crowned its latest winner last night, and it was Co Meath native Elysha Brennan who took home the coveted crown at the festival Dome in Co Kerry.

Elysha 22 a medical student and Country Meath Rose was named the overall winner by host Daithi O’Shea at the nations world famous beauty pageant last night, Elysha who was clearly overwhelmed after receiving a standing ovation spoke of her delight after winning the contest saying: “Oh my goodness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve never experienced a feeling like this.” “I’ve never been surrounded by such inspirational, moving, strong, driven, focused, ambitious women.” The newly crowned Rose continued: “And I’ve never had such big shoes to fill after Maria Walsh, you’ve had an incredible year.”

Elysha who was tragically diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma just before her leaving cert a number years ago, but now thankfully in remission took the title after she amazed the judges along with the on looking audience with her rendition of ‘Bright Blue Rose’.
Elysha was the bookies clear favourite for the past week as she had impressed the judges and viewing public throughout the entire contest.

Elysha will now carry out her first act as the new Rose by posing for traditional photographs in the Rose garden later this morning. Elysha’s win marks a turn in events as she becomes the contests first county winner since 7 years.
