The Minister for Housing and Fine Gael leadership candidate Simon Coveney has said the race for the top position within the party is far from over and he can still turn things around.
Mr Coveney’s comments come after weekend which seen the vast majority of party members decaling their support for his rival Leo Varadkar.
Speaking on RTE radio’s This Week programme, Mr Coveney said: “At the moment, all we’ve seen is a majority of my Oireachtas colleagues declare for Leo, declarations are not votes.”
Mr Coveney also said he can turn things around and he owed it to himself and to the membership of the Fine Gael party to stay in the race to its conclusion in 10 days time.
