Coveney: “We should pursue those who have not paid their water charges – as those who paid are not looking for a refund”

The water charged debate has once again resurfaced and now it seems the Government are clearly divided on whether or not to introduce the much hated water charges.

The latest Minister to get involved Simon Coveney, has said the Government should pursue those who did not pay rather than refund those who already.

Mr Coveney said that he wouldn’t be in favour of any refunds, as it’s not a fair option. He explained: “Personally, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” “I think a lot of people who paid their water charges paid for a service, they knew what they were paying for, and they’re not looking for their money back, they’re just looking for equity and fairness to make sure that everybody pays what’s due.”

“People who have paid should not be put in a disadvantages position versus those who have not.”
