Crackdown: Gardai arrest almost 1,000 drivers on suspicion of drink driving over the course of December




Gardaí have confirmed that almost 1,000 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving whilst intoxicated over the course of the month of December.

In newly published figures Gardai confirmed from November 30th until December 31st, 938 motorists were stopped during its Christmas road safety campaign.

In an official message posted on social media  Gardai said the following: “An Garda Siochana will continue to focus on these high risk drivers throughout 2019.”

“It’s a choice to drive intoxicated and a potentially fatal one.”

The latest figures will be still cons worrying despite new laws being introduced back in October that will see thougher penalties being handed out to drink drivers.
