Customs discover €3m worth of cigarettes at Dublin Port

It has been confirmed that officers from Revenue & Customs have seized 7,680,000 cigarettes in Dublin Port, which would have represented a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €3m.

Customs officers say the ‘Manchester’ brand cigarettes were discovered when they abduction Revenue sniffer dog Casey, conducted a search of a container which had arrived from Belgium.

It is understood that the cigarettes were hidden beneath a layer of black plastic and were described on the manifest as breakfast cereals.
