Dalai Lama says that any female successor of his should be attractive

The Dalai Lama has said that he would approve of a female successor, but only if she were attractive.

The leader said that there is no reason why a female couldn’t do his job, provided they showed compassion and affection which women are more biologically suited to do.

The Dalai Lama spoke to the BBC about the comment he made to a French journalist 15 years ago.  He said: “I think females should take more important role. I told the reporter, if a female Dalai Lama comes her face must be – should be – very attractive. When female Dalai Lama comes, then that female must be attractive, otherwise not much use.”

The Dalai Lama celebrates his 80th birthday this year.
