Department of Education confirms that a school catered for traveller children will officially close its doors for good in June

The travelling community have been left frustrated this morning after it was confirmed on Tuesday that a secondary school which caters for traveller children will officially close its doors in June.

Following an internal review, the Department of Education confirmed that St Thomas’s school in Clonshaugh will close for good at the end of the current school year.

Although it has been reported that the Department of Education wanted to close the school which caters for 30 students with immediate effect, it has been revealed that the school persuaded department officials to keep its doors open for a further two months.

It is believed that the Department of Education requested that the school should be shut down following the review which found a number of problems with the education on offer.
