Department of Social Protection confirm that pension age will not rise despite latest research exercise

The Department of Social Protection says have confirmed that the Government currently has no plans to increase the pension age at this present time.

The announcement comes after initial reports suggested that the state was considering raising the pension age to 70 following recommendations from Economic and Social Research institute.

However the State pension age will still go up to 67 in 2021, and to 68 in 2028.

Addressing the speculation the Oireachtas Budgetary Oversight Committee said the ESRI’s research on public pensions was purely a mechanical exercise, and at this present time there are no plans to raise the pension age to beyond 68.
