Devastated Limerick mother issues heartfelt appeal for the return of her stolen phone which holds ‘priceless memories’ of her little girl who tragically passed away

A emotional Limerick mother has issued an heartfelt appeal for the return of her phone which contains thousands of pictures of her little girl who tragically passed away.

A distraught Stacey Mulcahy has urged a unknown member of the public who purchased the stolen phone to return her memory card which contains hundreds of photos of her little girl Sophie who sadly lost her battle against a rare genetic disorder after eight years in October 2014, after undergoing six heart operations in her short life. A emotional Stacey told reporters her little girl was born with a hypoplastic heart condition and doctors only gave her just weeks to live but she was a fighter.

However tragically Sophie was then diagnosed with the 1q43 genetic disorder, one of only 40 known cases worldwide, and sadly passed away in October 2014. Stacey said: “I don’t care about the phone…they can have it, they can kept it.” “But my whole life was on that phone. It held the last photos, priceless memories of our Sophie.”

It is understood Stacey’s phone was stolen last Thursday evening when she was working at her nail bar Limerick city, it is thought the phone a black Samsung Galaxy Note was pick picketed when the grieving mother’s back was turned. Stacey further explained: “I haven’t slept since this happened – I’m in an awful state. I am now begging people to share this story to try and get even the memory card back.”

It has been revealed that Gardai have since arrested the thief but sadly Stacey’s phone had already been sold and her memory card has not yet been recovered. Stacey has appealed to the purchaser of the stolen phone to return the phone and memory card anonymously to Henry Street garda station in Limerick or her business, the Porcelain Doll nail bar at Fox’s Bow.

Meanwhile Sophie’s fight inspired her father Liam to set up the Cycle4Sick Children fundraiser and the Sophie’s Journey foundation, supporting other families of children with fatal conditions. “Memories are all we have of our beautiful little angel Sophie,” said heartbroken Liam. “They are beautiful in every way.”
