Diesel price sinks below €1 a litre for the first time in six years

Users of diesel cars can now buy a litre of diesel for less than €1, for the first time in six years.

Tuffy’s Gala filling station in Ballina, Co. Mayo, made this possible by lowering its diesel price to €99.9C a litre yesterday.

According to the station’s owner, he received a delivery at a lower-than-expected price, so he passed on the savings on to the pumps.

Prices of crude oil are currently on a downward trend worldwide, led in part by high supply and decreased demand due to a mild winter across the European continent and a slowing down of the Chinese economy.

Prices of both diesel and petrol are expected to fall even further in the coming weeks.
