Digging their heels in – Government say there will be no pay increases for Public sector workers until 2018 at the earliest

According to reports this morning public sector workers will not receive any pay increase until September 2018 at the earliest.

It is understood that the Government will not sanction a move that will see all civil servants recieve 6% increase over three years until the current Lansdowne Road Agreement expires next year.

The move which is likely to anger some 300,000 public sector workers comes after the Government argued that all those who agreed to the current Lansdowne Road Agreement signed on to honour the terms of the deal.

The Government’s current stance is also being deployed in an effort to eliminate more and more union representatives calling for pay increases under the threat of industrial action on regular basis.

If current reports are to be believed public sector workers would not see any increase in their pay until 2018 when they would receive 2% pay increase, they would then see their pay being increased by 2% in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

However the current proposals will most likely be met with a stern response by unions across the country as many feel they are being unfairly under payed given their roles in society.
