Disgraceful: Fine Gael Senator launches social media outburst against elderly priest in Knock Basilica

There has been severe online outrage after a Fine Gael Senator posted what many are calling an “ageist” tweet.

Fine Gael Senator Catherine Noone posted a tweet this afternoon where she criticised the “octogenarian priest” for daring to “preach” to the people about abortion.

Ms. Noone, who said she accompanied her parents to the annual Easter Sunday mass in Knock Shrine, seems to have been surprised that a priest would not support the government which is holding a referendum on 25th May to try and remove the right to life of unborn babies from the Constitution and then introduce legislation that would allow them to be aborted for any reason whatsoever up to 3 months in the womb.

Ms. Noone presided over the Oireachtas Committee which has led to this referendum. It invited a huge number of pro-repeal speakers but didn’t discuss the amazing development of the baby in the womb. The baby’s heart is beating at just 3 weeks and the baby has eyes, eyelids, a nose, mouth and tongue at just 6 weeks. The baby is moving in the womb at 10 weeks and is starting to suck his or her tongue at 12 weeks. The government proposal would allow the baby at 12 weeks to be aborted for any reason at all.

Senator Noone deleted her tweet this afternoon when it became clear that ageist remarks are not welcome, least of all from a Fine Gael Senator
