The ISPCA have appealed for information after three defenceless puppies were found abandoned in Co Longford.
According to The Irish Mirror newspaper, the six week old puppies where found abandoned near a pile of discarded rubbish at the River Inny earlier this week.
The Mirror say the one of the pups was tragically found dead after it sadly drowned in the river near the Red Bridge in Ballymahon.
It is understood the one of the pups was found by a passer-by who was walking in the area whilst the other two were found by the ISPCA who carried out a follow up search.
The ISPCA say both the surviving pups were brought to National Animal Centre.
It is believed that both pups are recovering well from their ordeal.
Meanwhile the ISPCA are asking anyone with any information to contact the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline on 1890 515 515, or Gardai at Longford Garda Station.
