Volkswagen have announced as of immediately, they are recalling a massive 80,000 cars from Ireland.

The huge recall is part of the company’s 11 million infected diesel car’s which had software installed to trick testers into thinking the cars had a low emission level.

In a statement from the car giant, they say customers can check with a new online service to see if their car is affected. Also, car retailers will be informed of cars that need to be recalled.

“In the meantime, all vehicles are technically safe and roadworthy” – inferring it is only an emissions issue.

The recall will involve 34,387 Volkswagen cars, 16,485 Audi cars, 4,365 SEAT and 16004 Skoda cars – brands that Volkswagen own.

More than 8,000 commercial vehicles are to be recalled. Up to another 30,000 second hand cars that have been imported into Ireland may also be recalled.
