The country seems to be experiencing never ending strike action over the past year as public sector workers have voiced their concerns over pay and conditions, and now it seems the nations doctors could be next to take industrial action in a dispute over pay.
It is understood that a number of non-consultant doctors will take industrial action if the Government doesn’t restore pay allowances. The news of the potential strike action comes in the wake of the recent Garda and teachers dispute over pay.
According to reports it is believed that Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) will threaten strike action unless the €3,000 living-out allowance for non-consultant doctors is restored.
The scrapping of the allowance, has led to doctors taking legal action over non payment of the allowance to non-consultants appointed since 2012, even though the payment is outlined in their contracts with employers. It is believed the IMO will ballot for strike action if their legal case is dismissed next week.
