Donohoe: “EU Apple tax ruling is unjustified and Ireland will not collect the outstanding €13bn unless Apple’s court appeal is unsuccessful”

The new Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has said the latest EU ruling that has ordered the Irish Government to collect over €13bn in taxes owed by technology giant Apple is unjustified.

Mr Donohoe who was speaking in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine (FAZ) German newspaper, said the Irish Government should not be forced to collect the outstanding tax bill as the current corporate tax laws in Ireland are for all businesses not only Apple.

The Finance Minister also claimed that the US giant did not violate European or Irish law.

Mr Donohie said: “We are not the global tax collector for everybody else.”

He added: “The ruling is unjustified and the Irish Government will not collect the outstanding tax payment unless Apple are unsuccessful in their upcoming appeal.”
