In last night’s documentary on RTE “Medication Nation”, Dr Eva Osmond called for a full ban on all over the counter painkillers, claiming that Ireland has a major problem with painkiller addiction.
Osmond interviewed many people who stated that they took up to 8 painkilling tablets a day.
A further discussion on the Claire Byrne Live show saw people from both sides of the argument debate on whether painkillers are acceptable under certain circumstances, or whether they become addictive and people let them get out od control.
Osmond claims Ireland spends over €1.8 billion a year on painkillers, double what the UK spends.
