There was some fantastic news for one homeless mother recently after she had her application for Dublin’s Trinity College accepted.

The devoted mum named Erica Fleming, 30, has realised her dream after the college decided to accept her enrolment recently. The loving mum who is now aiming to get her life on back on track, has been left with out home for almost a year.

Erica and little Emily aged 9, hope this recently turn of good fortune will give them a better chance as they have been in and out of emergency accommodation on regular basis over the past 12 months

New student Erica who is an avid campaigner for the homeless told reporters she only decided to apply to Trinity College, to inspire her little girl but she never thought she would ever be accepted.

The delighted mum who was one of 25 people to avail of place on the course, further explained : “I didn’t dream I’d get accepted. I am over the moon, thrilled. “My daughter Emily was recently there on a tour before I applied, so it’s a big deal for her too. She is so proud of me.

“I kept saying to Emily ‘You’re going to college,’ and she said she couldn’t – that we wouldn’t have the money. “She said she needed a laptop to go, and I said we would do it. That she is going to do well. And now I am going to one of the best colleges in the world and that has showed my daughter, she can do it.

“This has been a very tough year. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be accepted in to such a prestigious college, but I have to say I don’t think I’d even have applied if I hadn’t been homeless.

“This adversity has pushed me on to fight.” Erica also revealed that she will be studying several modules including social studies, law, and ironically, political studies this coming September and hopes her new found knowledge will spur her on to a better future.

Erica added she hopes to become a social worker when she finishes her course.
