A 14-yr-old boy was arrested and detained by gardai until this morning in connection with an enormous fire that was started in a paper factory in Drogheda last night.

The fire off the Donore Road near the M1 motorway, took Fire Brigades from all over County Louth to tackle the blaze.

Dawn Paper has been in business since 1988 and employs approximately 30 people. The factory was set ablaze at 9:35pm last night and within minutes, due to the contents of the factory, there was a huge fireball flying through the Drogheda skies.

The entire south side of the town was engulfed in smoke at one point. The Fire Brigade are still at the scene some 16 hours later.

A 14-yr-old youth was arrested but later released in connection to the incident.

A full investigation is on-going.
