Drug addict jailed for two and a half years for dangerous driving, which resulted in the death of a Dublin woman

A man has been jailed for two and a half years after he killed a woman when his car mounted a footpath on Middle Abbey Street in Dublin.

A known drug addict, Philip Trimble from Oscar Traynor Road, Santry had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of 56-year-old Frances McCarthy in January 2013.

Mrs McCarthy had been on shopping trip with her sister when she was run over by Trimble, Mrs McCarthy later died in hospital due to injuries she received from  being knocked down.

In an emotional victim impact statement which was read out in court, her husband described how life without his “best friend and soul mate” is “truly awful”.
