Dublin Port Tunnel will get new speed cameras that will help catch people speeding.
The new high tech system that will be introduced later this year will catch speeding motorists by calculating motorists’ speed based on the time it takes them to travel through the tunnel.
It is thought the high tech cameras will record the time from when the motorists enter the tunnel and when they leave it.
The current speed limit in the 4.8km tunnel is 80km/h, but new system will detect if motorists manage to leave the tunnel quicker than the average time it takes whilst traveling the legal speed limit.
