While the lower classes have to resort to food banks to stay alive, our freely elected representatives enjoy nothing but the finest of dining experience at the heavily subsidized Members’ Dining Room at Leinster House.

The latest perk to emerge is that you and me paid close to €20,000 for 670 sets of luxury white and red porcelain crockery manufactured in the United Arab Emirates. The sets are embossed with the State emblem and Houses of the Oireachtas logo.

The slush fund that is taxpayer money also afforded TDs and Senators to use 180 stainless steel knives and forks, 360 dessert knives and forks and an assortment of soup, dessert and teaspoons, for the bargain price of €4,200.
