The Minister for Education Richard Bruton is under major pressure this week from newly qualified teachers.
Most, but not all, are relatively young and feel they’re being taken advantage of as their wages are significantly below their colleagues simply because they qualified after the boom ended.
Bruton was condemned by some teachers on social media as “not caring less” about their situation with one saying she’s seeing close to a €20,000 difference at this stage in her career compared to if she had qualified just 5 years before she did.
Bruton has said that there’s no budgetary provision to address the difference in pay and won’t be for the immediate future.
