A visibly shaken Joan Burton somehow managed to save her own seat in Dublin West on Friday. Early exit polls showed categorically that the out-going Tanaiste was definitely on the way out.
However, better than predicted transfers saw the 67-yr-old manage to keep her seat by the skin of her teeth.
A member of the Labour canvass team in Castleknock said:
“Joan is relieved the Irish people have once again put their faith in her capable hands. She will continue to lead the party”.
