The deputy leader of Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald has said she believes that a Fine Gael and Fianna Fail coalition Government would be the “stuff of nightmares”.

Ms McDonald made her comments earlier today whilst she attended the RDS count centre in Dublin, the Sinn Fein TD said she would have liked her party to have done better, but said current election results were hugely encouraging.

Ms McDonald told reporters: “We have hugely increased our vote, our seats and I’m very delighted”, she also revealed that Sinn Fein were serious about forming a progressive Government. Although Ms McDonald refused to discuss any pact or coalition options.

The Sinn Fein deputy leader finalised by saying that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil had “no divine right” to be in Government.
