Electric Picnic 2016 officially sold out last night. But what could come next for the festival?

The 3-day music and arts festival has long been an Irish festival fan favourite, but never since its inception has it sold out this quickly.

The past two years it has failed to sell out until close to the event despite massive international headliners such as Blur and Outkast. This year is a record for the festival which only announced its first line-up 9 days ago.

The question on everyone’s lips: Who is next for the headline announcements?

With Red Hot Chilli Peppers announcing dates worldwide and most recently at Belfast’s Tennant’s Vital Festival, they are definitely an act to consider for this year.

Another act that many expected to be announced in the original line up was Radiohead. The band have announced dates for festivals in Lisbon and Barcelona to name a few, and would definitely fit in with the line up so far.

Other rumoured acts include Calvin Harris, Foo Fighters- highly unlikely though given the fact that their drummer Taylor Hawkins is touring with his side project- and Villagers to name a few.
