Electricity prices set to increase by €25 per year from October as Electric Ireland confirm levy increase

The monthly cost of householders electricity bills could be set to rise by €25 per year from October this year Electric Ireland have revealed today.

It is believed the increase comes as the Commission for Energy Regulation increased the Public Service Obligation Levy 30% for all customers across Ireland.

Although the increase will be unwelcomed by customers Electric Ireland say the increase is necessary as the PSO Levy covers the costs of renewable energy generation and peat burning power plants which are key components in maintaining Ireland’s electricity supply.

Under the new charges customers will now face charges of €105 per year rather than the current €80 rate.
