Emotional scenes in Waterford as hundreds of residents attend vigil calling for 24hr cardiac services following the death of local man Thomas Power

There were emotional scenes in Waterford last night as hundreds of residents staged a vigil outside University Hospital Waterford calling for 24-hour cardiac care in the region.

The vigil comes after a 39 year old local man Thomas Power sadly died whilst en-route to Cork University Hospital after paramedics were informed the local cath lab was out of service.

Although the Minister for Health Simon Harris has confirmed that an independent review of all cardiology units around the country will take place, many local residents are still angry that an out of hours Cath Lab has not been delivered despite the election promises of local TD John Halligan.
