Enda Kenny said to be “not looking for re-election” of Fine Gael leadership

Having been chastised by his own party members over a dismal performance in the recent general election, Enda Kenny wasn’t able to secure enough numbers to return as Taoiseach yesterday in the Dail.

As we reported last night, Kenny went to the Aras and tendered his resignation of the prime ministerial role to the President.

The 64-yr-old said earlier in the week that if he couldn’t secure enough votes to return as Taoiseach yesterday that he wouldn’t stand for re-election of the Fine Gael party.

A party insider told The Liberal:
“Enda has had his run and feels it’s now time to pass the mantle onto someone else, more than likely to someone the public aren’t expecting. He will not be looking for re-election”, she said.

Kenny is still acting Taoiseach until at least March 22nd when the Dail resumes next.
