England edge Wales in Cardiff thriller to keep grand slam hopes alive

England have beaten Wales 21-16 in Cardiff in a pulsating game this evening.

In a game that could go a long way to determining the destination of this year’s championship it was Eddie Jones’s men who managed to come out on top.

Following their successful outing against France last week, England came quickly out of the traps and took full advantage in the 18th minute when Ben Youngs crossed over for the opening try of the game.

However a determined Wales who also had successful opening day fought back and got a much deserved try just before half time, to lead 13-8 at the break.

The second half was a high tempo affair and Wales could consider themselves unlucky not to have pulled further ahead as they had a number of opportunities to cross over, but a resolute English defence held firm.

As the game came to a close it was mainly kicking affair with both Halfpenny and Farrell slotting over to keep the sides within touching distance of one another.

Although it looked like Wales were about to hang on for a vital win they were sadly undone in the 76th minute when Daly scored a magnificent try in the corner to give England the spoils.

England now top the table with the grand slam in sight but they still have two tricky ties against Scotland and Ireland to come in the weeks ahead.
