England’s Grand Slam dream is over as superb Scotland win the Calcutta Cup

England’s Grand Slam dreams have been ended this evening as a superb Scotland claimed the Calcutta Cup with a 25-13 win in Murrayfield.

In a victory that will give Ireland cause for concern, Scotland fully deserved their victory in front of a raucous Murrayfield crowd as they dominated the game from start to finish.

The Scots got off to the perfect start as Laidlaw slotted over to settle some early nerves, the game got even better a little over 10 minutes later as Gregor Townsend’s men scored their first try through Jones, after Farrell had drew the teams level through a penalty.

England who will be left ruing their ill-discipline were once again made to pay as Maitland crossed over in the corner following some great build up play from the Scots who quickly broke down field from a terrific interception.

Scotland then found themselves in dreamland as Jones broke the English defensive line to add his second try to leave the score at 22-6 going into the break.

The second half seen England show some resolve as Farrell crossed over to reduce the deficit early in the half.

However that was as much Eddie Jones’s men could muster as a resilient Scottish side held firm by disrupting a frustrated English side who gave away a number of careless penalties.

Following the substitution of Laidlaw, Russell added a penalty 13 minutes from time to seal victory for Scotland.

Scotland now face Ireland in a crucial tie in two weeks time still with a real chance to win the championship.

Meanwhile England will travel to Paris to face a resurgent French side who will look to build on last night’s victory over Italy.
