The literary world has lost a great novelist today.
Crime author PD James passed away peacefully at her home this morning.
James, whose full name was Phyllis Dorothy James, was born in Oxford in 1920 and worked as a civil servant for 30 years. She began writing in the 1950s, and was first published in 1962.
She was perhaps best known for bringing sleuth Adam Dalgliesh to life through her words. Dalgliesh books have sold millions of copies worldwide.
