Equally Right: Newly implemented rules will now see women being prioritised for top level public sector positions

There was good news announced for women seeking top level public sector positions as the Department of Public Expenditure revealed that they will introduce a number of measures to promote gender equality.

The new comes after latest figures showed that men are far more likely to be given a top level position than their female counterparts.

Although it is believed that the best candidate for the role module will remain, there will be more chances given to women than there was before.

The department has released a statement regarding the decision, saying: “In such cases, where candidates who compete for Top Level Appointments Committee positions are of equal merit, then priority would be given to the female candidate where they are under-represented on the management board of the department or office in question.”

It is also understood the new rules has received the full backing from government ministers, including the Public Expenditure Minster Paschal Donohoe
