Euro 2016: Dream start for Wales as Gareth Bale stars in 2-1 win over Slovakia

Wales marked their first appearence in a major tournament in over 58 years with a well earned 2-1 win over Slovakia in Bordeaux this evening.

The Welsh have enhanced their chances of making the last 16 by gaining all 3 points against a lacklustre Slovakian side. The Welsh had a great start on 10 minutes when star man Gareth Bale scored a marvellous free kick to give the red dragons the lead. The first half as a whole was a fairly even affair with Bale’s goal being the most memorable moment of the half although Marik Hamsik did have a shot heroically cleared off the line by Ben Davies early on.

The second half began with much of the same with neither side really dominating possession, however the Slovakians were level on the hour mark when substitute Duda came on to slot a sublime shot passed stand in goalkeeper Danny Ward. The game looked like it was going end in a stalemate until Robison-Kanu came on to score with a scuffed shot in the 81st minute.

The Welsh managed to hang on and give themselves a major boost going into their second game against England on Thursday.
